Hi, I'm Jess.
I’m a freelance journalist and copywriter with 15 years’ experience covering equestrian and travel topics. I was born and raised in the beautiful island of New Zealand, but since 2005 I have called Italy my home.
My enthusiasm for all things equine started at a young age. My first horse was a capricious chestnut Arabian named Buddy, and I was equal parts terrified of him, as I was enchanted by his flamelike character.
Buddy taught me about inner strength, power, and how to wield it responsibly. He taught me about determination, when to push ahead and when to let things go.
Straight out of school, I turned my passion for horses into a career.
I moved to Germany at 18 and that opportunity led me to Italy where I had the chance to work at some extraordinary places, learn a few languages and meet people doing groundbreaking things with horses. I returned to NZ briefly in 2001 to study and work, then headed back to Europe in 2006 where I certifed as a trail guide and spent the next decade leading trips through the Italian wilderness on horseback.
My background with horses combined with many years of in-the-trenches marketing experience, left me with a unique knowledge base to draw on. As a specialist writer, I can create highly personalized, emotive and engaging marketing copy that strengthens brand loyalty and improves ROI. Because horse people are my people.
I always loved telling a good story. Especially a story about horses. And now it's a fulltime gig.
My writing has been published in a range of international publications, including Chronicle of The Horse, Horse Illustrated, Horses and People, American Paint Horse Journal, NZ Horse and Pony and numerous online platforms.
I write regular columns for The Equestrian Hub on industry trends, IoT tech and fashion and I’ve also done commercial copywriting and consultancy work for international clients such as Horseware Ireland, Kelpies Galicia, Victory Genomics and RideAway Travel.
